October 16, 2026 Express Entry French Draw: 5,000 ITAs at CRS 435
On October 16, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held Express Entry round #450, a French-language proficiency category-based invitation round. According to IRCC’s official rounds of invitations data, the department issued 5,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the lowest-ranked candidate invited was 435.
The round closed a mid-October cluster that also included a Provincial Nominee Program round on October 13 (752 invitations at CRS 772) and a Canadian Experience Class round on October 15 (2,500 invitations at CRS 519). Confirm every figure on IRCC’s rounds of invitations page and the ministerial instruction for round #450.

Why a 435 cutoff matters
CRS 435 is 53 points higher than the August 19, 2026 French-language round (5,000 invitations at CRS 382) and 44 points higher than the August 6 French round (5,000 invitations at CRS 391). The invitation volume stayed at 5,000, but the cutoff moved up.
That shift does not mean French-language rounds are closed to mid-score candidates. A 435 cutoff is still well below the October 15 CEC cutoff of 519. Category-based selection continues to give French-proficient candidates a path that may be unreachable in CEC-only or PNP-only rounds.
Do not treat 435 as a standing target. Each round has its own ministerial instructions. The next French-language cutoff may be higher or lower.
Who qualifies for French-language category draws
IRCC’s category-based selection page sets the French-language category rules. To be considered, you must:
- Be eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, or Federal Skilled Trades Program)
- Have French-language test results that show a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC)
- Meet every requirement in the ministerial instructions for that specific round
- Keep an active Express Entry profile that matches your documents
NCLC 7 in speaking, listening, reading, and writing makes you eligible for the category. It does not guarantee an invitation. CRS then ranks eligible profiles.
What this means if you received an ITA
If you received an invitation:
- You have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application.
- Confirm that language tests, Educational Credential Assessments, and work letters remain valid and match your profile.
- Arrange police certificates and medical examinations early.
- Support every claimed fact. Inconsistencies often cause delay or refusal.
An ITA is not a final approval. IRCC still assesses program eligibility, profile accuracy, category eligibility, and admissibility.
What this means if you were not invited
Useful next steps include:
- Confirming or improving French scores so you remain at NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities
- Raising overall CRS through language, education, Canadian work experience, or spouse or common-law partner factors
- Exploring a Provincial Nominee Program stream. A nomination adds 600 CRS points
- Watching for the next cluster. Recent months have often followed a PNP, then CEC, then French sequence, but IRCC is not bound to that pattern
Keep your profile accurate. An outdated test date, job title, or family detail can take you out of a round you would otherwise have entered.

Practical next steps
- Verify the October 16 results, and any later rounds, on the official IRCC rounds page.
- Keep language tests current. Most results remain valid for two years, but they must still be valid when IRCC receives your complete application.
- If your work permit is close to expiry and a permanent residence application is already in process, review whether a bridging open work permit may apply.
- Check IRCC’s current processing-time tool for the estimate that applies to your program.
