IRCC August 2026 Processing Times: FSWP Now 6 Months — What Express Entry and PNP Applicants Should Know
On or around 10 August 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published its latest monthly refresh of permanent-residence processing-time estimates. For economic applicants the headline is clear: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) estimate has dropped from 7 months to 6 months, bringing it into line with the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the published service standard.
Base (non-Express Entry) Provincial Nominee Program applications moved the other way, rising from 12 months to 13 months. Inventories for both CEC and FSWP continued to shrink.
These figures are forward-looking estimates published on the official IRCC processing-times tool. They are not guarantees and can change. Always confirm the current number for your specific application type before making plans.
Key changes at a glance (August 10 vs July 7)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): 6 months (unchanged). Inventory ≈ 59,700 (−1,800).
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): 6 months (down from 7). Inventory ≈ 52,400 (−3,400).
- Enhanced PNP (through Express Entry): 7 months (unchanged). Inventory ≈ 11,800 (−300).
- Base PNP (non-Express Entry): 13 months (up from 12). Inventory ≈ 102,400 (−1,400).
IRCC’s service standard for Express Entry streams remains six months. Both CEC and FSWP now meet that standard on the published estimate. The service standard for base PNP is 11 months, so the current estimate exceeds it.

What the FSWP improvement means for you
If you already hold an Invitation to Apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the shorter published estimate is encouraging. The simultaneous drop of more than 3,000 files in the FSWP inventory suggests IRCC is finalizing applications faster than new ones are arriving in this stream.
If you are still in the Express Entry pool, the processing-time change does not alter your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score or your chances of receiving an invitation. Draw cut-offs and invitation volumes are set separately. The improvement only affects the post-ITA stage.
Base PNP applicants face a longer federal stage
A provincial nomination remains highly valuable because it adds 600 CRS points and virtually guarantees an Express Entry invitation in an enhanced (EE-aligned) pathway. Candidates whose nomination is processed outside Express Entry, however, should build the longer 13-month federal processing estimate into their planning. Maintaining temporary status, employment, and family arrangements for an extended period becomes more important.
Practical steps while you wait
- Verify the live number. Open the official IRCC tool and select your exact program and, where relevant, country of residence.
- Keep your file complete. Respond promptly to any request for additional documents, biometrics, or medical results. Incomplete applications are a common source of extra delay.
- Protect your temporary status. If you are in Canada, apply to extend a work or study permit well before it expires so you do not lose maintained status while permanent residence is processing.
- Monitor inventory trends. Shrinking queues in CEC and FSWP are positive signals, but levels can reverse if intake rises or processing capacity shifts.
- Plan conservatively. Do not book non-refundable travel or make irreversible life decisions solely on the basis of an average estimate.
