October 29, 2026: Study Permits from India Now Take 8 Weeks

IRCC's processing-times datasets now stamp October 29, 2026. A study permit filed from India is 8 weeks. On the October 14, 2026 stamp, the same line was 7 weeks. That one-week rise is the figure to plan around for a winter or spring start. The Check current IRCC processing times page, metadata modified 2026-10-30, says the times are not a maximum or a guarantee.

Those country strings are in IRCC's country dataset, lastupdated October 29, 2026, retrieved on October 31, 2026. The page maps India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Nigeria, and the United States to those codes. Extension and PR card strings are in the non-country dataset, stamped the same day.

What moved since October 14

The comparison is the October 14 stamp in our study permit waits post against the October 29 datasets. A weekly refresh can sit between those stamps.

Study permits, in weeks, if IRCC receives a complete application today

Where you apply fromOctober 14 stampOctober 29 dataset
India7 weeks8 weeks
Pakistan8 weeks6 weeks
Philippines6 weeks6 weeks
Nigeria10 weeks10 weeks
United States5 weeks4 weeks

Work permits from outside Canada: India is 10 weeks, down from 11 on October 14. Pakistan is 9 weeks, the Philippines 9 weeks, Nigeria 10 weeks, and the United States 6 weeks.

Visitor visas from outside Canada, and the visitor record

LineOctober 14 stampOctober 29 dataset
Visitor visa, India29 days31 days
Visitor visa, Pakistan65 days59 days
Visitor visa, Philippines24 days25 days
Visitor visa, Nigeria103 days105 days
Visitor extension (visitor record)357 days321 days

The visitor record fell 36 days, from 357 to 321 days. A shorter estimate does not clear a file already in the queue.

Super visas on the same stamp: Philippines 106 days (was 103), Nigeria 30 days (was 35), India 82 days, Pakistan 99 days, United States 74 days.

Extensions and PR cards, stored in days

The October 29 non-country dataset states these lines in days:

LineOctober 29 string
Study permit extension54 days
Work permit extension123 days
First PR card (new_pr)28 days
Renew or replace a PR card (existing_pr)43 days

The October 14 note recorded those extensions as 8 weeks and 13 weeks. This post does not convert weeks into days. The PR card menu choices are "I'm waiting for my first card" and "I'm renewing or replacing my card."

Data stamp versus the day you file

These dates do different jobs.

  1. Data stamp. October 29, 2026 is the lastupdated value. It is not a deadline and not a rule change.
  2. Page date. Metadata says modified 2026-10-30. On October 31, 2026 the server Last-Modified header was 03:02:01 GMT. The times live in the datasets.
  3. Filing date. IRCC says the clock starts the day it receives a complete application and ends at the decision. The posted figure is the estimate if IRCC receives the file today.

An 8-week estimate from India does not have to land before a program start date. IRCC does not owe a decision by the first day of term. File when the file is complete.

Not a maximum or a guarantee"]

What this means if you are about to file

  1. India study permits are one week longer than on October 14. Budget 8 weeks from a complete file received today, then leave room. The estimate includes biometrics time.
  2. Pakistan study permits moved from 8 weeks to 6. Do not hold a complete file for a still-shorter week.
  3. A visitor record at 321 days is still long. Apply before status expires if you need to stay. Maintained status depends on a timely, complete application.
  4. Work permits from India at 10 weeks are one week shorter than October 14. That is an estimate change, not a new program rule.
  5. The tool names three countries. IRCC is not finalizing applications from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan, and says people living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda are temporarily not permitted to travel to Canada. A file listing one of those as the last country of residence may take longer than the posted time.

An incomplete application can be delayed or returned. The estimate does not replace the messages in your IRCC account.
