Express Entry’s First 2026 Transport Occupations Draw: 300 ITAs at CRS 470
On August 7, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted the first Express Entry category-based round of the year targeting Transport Occupations (2026-Version 2). The department issued 300 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the lowest-ranked candidate invited was 470.

Who Qualifies for the Transport Occupations Category
To be eligible for this category, candidates must meet the minimum criteria for one of the three Express Entry programs and have accumulated, within the past three years, at least 12 months of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time experience) in a single occupation from the official list. The experience can be gained in Canada or abroad and does not need to be continuous.
The eligible occupations (2021 NOC) are:
- Aircraft mechanics and aircraft inspectors (NOC 72404)
- Air pilots, flight engineers and flying instructors (NOC 72600)
- Aircraft instrument, electrical and avionics mechanics, technicians and inspectors (NOC 22313)
- Automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics, and mechanical repairers (NOC 72410)

Context and What It Means
The Transport category was removed from category-based selection in early 2025 and reintroduced in February 2026 with a revised, narrower list of occupations focused on aircraft and vehicle maintenance and piloting roles. The minimum experience requirement also rose from six continuous months to 12 months (not necessarily continuous).
A CRS cutoff of 470 is significantly lower than recent Canadian Experience Class rounds (which have sat in the mid-510s). This creates a meaningful opportunity for candidates who have the required transport experience but may not reach higher general or CEC cutoffs.
As of August 3, 2026, the overall Express Entry pool held about 229,100 candidates.
If You Received an ITA
- You have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application.
- Double-check that your language results, Educational Credential Assessment, and work references remain valid and match your profile.
- Begin police certificates and medical exams early.
- Ensure every detail in the application is fully documented—IRCC conducts a full review after the invitation.
An ITA is an invitation, not a guarantee of approval.

- Confirm whether your work experience matches one of the four eligible NOCs and meets the 12-month threshold.
- Continue improving language scores, education, or Canadian experience to raise your overall CRS.
- Watch for future Transport rounds and other category-based draws (French-language, healthcare, trades, etc.).
- Consider Provincial Nominee Program streams; a nomination adds 600 CRS points.
