October 29, 2026: SAWP Work Permit Estimate Falls to 21 Days
IRCC's processing-time file for programs that are not split by country now lists the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program at 21 days. The file's lastupdated value is October 29, 2026. The same field, sawp_current, was 95 days in the file last updated October 21, 2026. The posted estimate fell by 74 days.
On November 2, 2026, the live file at that Canada.ca address still showed the October 29 stamp and the 21-day line. The Check current IRCC processing times page lists Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) as its own menu choice. It is not the work permit extension line, and it is not a work permit filed from inside Canada.
The page says these times are not a maximum or a guarantee. A file can take longer than the number on the screen.
What the two official files say
Both figures come from IRCC's non-country processing-time file. The October 21 update and the October 29 update are two stamps of that same file.
| File last updated | SAWP line (sawp_current) |
|---|---|
| October 21, 2026 | 95 days |
| October 29, 2026 | 21 days |
Our October 31 study-permit post used other lines from the October 29 file, including study permits from India at 8 weeks and the visitor record at 321 days. It did not quote the SAWP line. This post is that line only.
The same October 29 file still lists a work permit extension at 123 days and a study permit extension at 54 days. Do not borrow those strings for a SAWP work permit.
Data stamp, filing date, and the season window
These dates do different jobs.
- Data stamp. October 29, 2026 is the
lastupdatedvalue. It is not a deadline, and it is not the day a decision will arrive. - Filing date. IRCC says the clock starts the day it receives a complete application and ends when it makes a decision. The posted figure is the estimate if IRCC receives the file today. The page says the estimate includes the time to give biometrics.
- Program window. On the ESDC SAWP overview, employers can hire workers for a maximum of 8 months, between January 1 and December 15, if they can offer at least 240 hours of work within 6 weeks or less. Those dates govern the job. They do not add days to the IRCC estimate, and the estimate does not extend work past December 15.
A shorter posted estimate does not clear a file already in the queue. An incomplete application can be delayed or returned. The processing-times page also says calling IRCC will not make the file faster.
Who the 21-day line is for
ESDC's overview says SAWP is for employers who cannot find Canadians or permanent residents for on-farm primary agriculture in the listed commodity sectors. The worker must be a citizen of Mexico or one of these participating Caribbean countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, or Trinidad and Tobago.
The worker must be at least 18, experienced in farming, and able to meet Canadian immigration law and the law of the home country. Participating governments recruit and select workers, keep a pool of qualified workers, and check that the required documents are in place. A posted IRCC estimate does not replace that selection step.
The LMIA sits on a separate ESDC clock. Our September 10 LMIA note recorded a SAWP average of 6 business days on that month's table. That number is not this week's IRCC permit estimate. Read the live ESDC table before you plan the employer side.
What this means if you are hiring or named on a file
- Use 21 days only for a SAWP work permit on the October 29 stamp. Leave room. The tool can change at the next weekly update.
- Keep the season window in view. Eight months, and no later than December 15, is the ESDC limit on the job. Processing time is not extra employment.
- Do not read 123 days into this file. That string is the work permit extension line on the same date. It covers many post-graduation and bridging files, not SAWP.
- Country measures still sit on the tool. IRCC says it is not finalizing applications from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan. A file that lists one of those as the last country of residence can take longer than the posted time.
- A complete file is the start of the clock. Missing documents can send the application back.
